I've missed you! Plus release news

Hello my dears,

How are you? I hope you're all well.

It's been a while since we've spoken and I've got a lot to say about what I've been up to and what's coming for Say Anise this year, so make yourself a cup of tea, get comfy, and settle in for a little Emily ramble...

So, first things first, I finally have some concrete release news for you!

My next single (and first in a while) will be out next Friday 3rd Feb

The song is called Hurry Honeypie, you may have heard it if you've been to a show in the last year.

I wrote it almost exactly a year ago, at a time when I was feeling a bit fed up, feeling like everything (work, life) was a bit of a struggle, and the song is a sort of call to the universe to bring something new and good into my life! I like to think that, as with the majority of my songs, as well as an obvious melancholy, there is a hopefulness to the message, and I'm happy to say that a lot has happened in the last year, some great, some bloody awful... In a nutshell, I think 2022 was a big year of growth for me, both personally and musically. In fact, as I'm sitting here writing this, I am realising that a lot has changed, and I am in a very different, and much better position now. So the song worked!

One of the big things that happened in the last year was I found a new producer and recorded a bunch of my songs. I know we often think this about new stuff (I definitely do), but I really do think these new recordings are my best ever. It takes time I think as a songwriter to find a way to record your music that feels right, and I do believe I'm actually starting to get there.

Slowly but surely.

Which brings me onto the next thing.

I am aware that many of you contributed to the Kickstarter campaign I launched last February, and are probably wondering where this mysterious EP is. The good news is it's ready, the bad news is I'm not releasing it yet!

Let me explain.

The original plan was to release a 4 or 5 track EP, partially funded by the Kickstarter, last Autumn. However, one of the big things I've learned is, as an indie artist, the best way to get your music heard is to consistently release singles. And so the new plan is to release a few singles, one at a time, before putting out the EP. I don't have an exact date for getting the EP to you yet, but it will be more like Spring/Summer. I know this is at least six months later than originally planned, and I hope you'll continue to be patient with me, and enjoy these new singles as they come out!

Plus, I do have some more good news for you. In the summer, I wrote two new songs that I fell in love with and decided to record. And so this 4 or 5 track EP has grown into a 7 song sort of mini album!

So back to the single.

It's out next Friday, 3/2/23, on Bandcamp Friday (which means if you purchase it that day on Bandcamp, they waive their fees and I get all the money!)

It will also be available in all the usual spaces, and you can pre-save it now on Spotify by clicking here.

And if you like it, let me know, add it to a playlist, share it with a friend... as we all know, the music industry is a tricky place to navigate, so every little step helps to get these tunes out there into the world.

That's enough for now I think.

The last few months have been a bit of period of hibernation for me while I figure out my next moves, but I think I'm coming out of that now, so you'll probably be hearing from me a little bit more as I release all this new music. As always, I'm so grateful for your support, your patience and your encouragement.

P.s. I feel like this photo is my accidental author headshot, if I ever write a novel... for now it feels appropriate to include it here.
